Anlo Youth Group Demands Full Financial Transparency for Hogbetsotso Festival

ANLO, Ghana – September 16, 2025 – In a bold move for transparency, the Anlo Progressive Youth for Accountability and Development (APYAD) has publicly demanded full financial accountability from the Anlo Youth Council for the upcoming Hogbetsotso festival (Hogbeza 2025). This demand, articulated in a recent press statement, directly references a pending high court lawsuit seeking an account of all festival proceeds from 2011 to the present.

The group, while expressing strong support for the cultural celebration, is taking a firm stand against the historical lack of financial transparency that has plagued the event. Consequently, APYAD is putting the current organizers on immediate notice.

A History of Unanswered Questions

A lawsuit is already pending before the Sogakope High Court. Albert Ahialengor & Ano vrs Awadada Agbesi Avusu II demands a full accounting of Hogbeza funds. The court ordered the previous committee to render these accounts. The current demand builds upon this legal framework.

A Direct Warning to Current Organizers

Furthermore, APYAD’s statement addresses rumors circulating within the community. The group claims that organizers have already begun collecting and distributing funds ahead of the festival. In response, the youth group issued a direct warning: “Our eagle eyes are watching you.” They have vowed to hold the Anlo Youth Council fully accountable for every penny collected this year. Subsequently, they will demand a detailed and public disclosure of all income sources and expenditures.

A Commitment to Peaceful and Legal Action

APYAD commits to peaceful, legal processes. To clarify their intentions, Albert Ahialengor further stated the youth care deeply about their festival’s success. Therefore, their primary goal is not to disrupt the celebration; rather, they want to ensure funds are used for the Anlo people’s benefit.

Furthermore, the group assures the community of its progressive approach. Specifically, they will pursue matters through the courts. This deliberate effort will avoid any intimidation or harassment.

Ultimately, this highlights a significant push for good governance. In particular, it demands financial transparency in cultural administration. In this role, APYAD acts as a community watchdog that ensures traditions are managed with integrity, which benefits all Anlo people.
