GRNMA Not Happy With Parliamentary Committee

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the unilateral rescheduling of a crucial meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health.

Originally set for June 26, 2025, the meeting was postponed to July 10, 2025, due to the unavailability of key stakeholders. The GRNMA, which recently suspended a nationwide strike on June 13 after appeals from the public and the Committee, views this delay as a breach of good faith. The Association warned that further postponements could hinder the implementation of agreed-upon terms, emphasizing that their demands are non-negotiable.

In a press statement, the GRNMA outlined its demands, including the implementation of four critical items by July 2025 and the remaining issues by January 2026. The Association insists these timelines must be formally documented and signed during the rescheduled meeting to avoid ambiguity. While the GRNMA has agreed to await the new date, it cautioned that any further delays would prompt decisive action. The statement also acknowledged the solidarity of nurses, midwives, and the media in amplifying their concerns during the strike period.

Signed by President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, the statement urged members to remain patient but vigilant. The GRNMA reiterated its commitment to securing fair working conditions and called on the government to honor its commitments promptly. The Association’s firm stance underscores the growing tension between healthcare workers and authorities, as delays risk reigniting industrial unrest in Ghana’s health sector.
