Ridge Hospital Attack
Ridge Hospital-The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) has issued a strong press statement, calling for intensified police action and improved security measures in the wake of the recent assault incident at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

Following a meeting of its National Executive Committee on August 21, 2025, the Association carefully monitored the aftermath of the event and subsequent stakeholder discussions. Consequently, the leadership has outlined a clear, five-point plan to address the situation and prevent future occurrences.
While the GRNMA acknowledges the initial arrests made by the Police and recognizes the “palpable commitment” from employers and security agencies, it is now pushing for more decisive results. The Association firmly believes that swift justice is crucial for the well-being of its members and the safety of the healthcare system.
Call for Immediate Arrest and Deterrence
Firstly, the GRNMA is urgently calling on the Ghana Police Service to intensify its efforts. Specifically, the Association demands the prompt arrest of Ralph Saint Williams and all his accomplices.

The leadership argues that immediate action will serve as a powerful deterrent to others who might contemplate similar actions. Moreover, this will critically assure nurses and health workers at Ridge Hospital of their personal security and help mitigate the severe mental health trauma caused by the attack.
A Pledge of Unwavering Support to Members
Furthermore, the Association is taking this opportunity to reassure every nurse and midwife across Ghana of its unwavering support. The GRNMA leadership has solemnly pledged to continue serving their interests and protecting them vigorously.
Importantly, this protection will operate strictly within the confines of the Constitution of Ghana, the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651), and the GRNMA Constitution.
Reassurance for Patients and the Public
Additionally, the GRNMA directly addressed patients and the public. The Association assures all patients at Ridge Hospital of the continuous and uninterrupted provision of nursing and midwifery services. They emphatically state that they will not allow patients to suffer unduly due to the “total disregard of law and order” by individuals.
Simultaneously, the GRNMA calls for public understanding and cooperation, highlighting the existing challenges within public health facilities, including workforce gaps and inadequate logistics.
Appeal to Employers for Systemic Support
Finally, the statement includes a direct appeal to health facility employers. The GRNMA urges them to immediately strengthen security at all health facilities. The Association also specifically calls on the management of Ridge Hospital to provide essential psychological support for the assaulted nurse and to enhance staff training on coping mechanisms for workplace stress.

The GRNMA assures employers of its partnership in the shared goal of improving Ghana’s health system, concluding that a secure environment is fundamental to achieving quality and safe healthcare for all.
