The government has announced the imposition of a curfew in Bawku, Nalerigu, and their environs, effective from 2 PM to 6 AM daily, starting Sunday, July 27, 2025.
This measure, according to a statement from the Presidency Communications signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister, Government Communications, is intended to create an environment conducive to the evacuation of all students from various educational institutions in these affected areas. The decision comes amidst ongoing conflict in the region, which has unfortunately impacted some students.
The Ministry of the Interior’s earlier statement had already outlined the curfew’s enforcement as a means of restoring peace. However, the Presidency’s latest communication clarifies a crucial additional objective: ensuring the safe removal of students.
This strategic use of the curfew underscores the government’s commitment to protecting its youth, particularly those who have found themselves caught in the crossfire of the regional conflict. The focus on facilitating a smooth and secure evacuation highlights the urgency of the situation and the government’s efforts to mitigate further harm to the student population.
