The Eastern Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has refuted media reports claiming that unknown individuals attempted to set the Nkawkaw Fire Tender ablaze.
In a press release dated 13th June 2025, the GNFS explained that the incident occurred on 11th June when the fire tender became stuck in a muddy, charcoal-filled road while responding to a distress call. The heat from the engine ignited the charcoal beneath the vehicle, producing smoke and flames that were mistakenly interpreted as a deliberate attack.
The GNFS emphasized that there was no malicious intent behind the incident, dispelling rumors of violence against its personnel. Due to the vehicle’s immobilization, the Mpraeso Fire Tender was swiftly dispatched to handle the emergency at Zaragoza Atta Ne Atta, where a nine-bedroom house was on fire. The Service reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to responding to emergencies with professionalism and efficiency, despite logistical challenges.
Signed by ACFO I Timothy Osafo-Affum, Eastern Regional Commander, the statement urged the media to verify facts before publishing to avoid misinformation. The GNFS also called for public support in ensuring unimpeded access for emergency responders, highlighting the importance of accurate reporting in maintaining trust between the Service and the communities it serves.
