The Ghana Police Service has now launched a full investigation into serious allegations made by an American citizen in a viral social media video.

According to an official press release dated December 9, 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is actively probing claims by Arianna Naomi Mackey.

Allegations of Kidnapping by Masked Men

In the video, Mackey, an American citizen, specifically alleged that five masked men kidnapped and robbed her. She claimed further that these individuals were officers of the Ghana Police Service conducting a snap-check in Accra.

Police Trace Timeline and Contact Victim

Consequently, police investigators immediately began preliminary work. Their checks confirmed the video was recorded at an Accra hotel where Mackey and two companions stayed.

Importantly, records show the group checked out on December 5, 2025. Subsequently, checks at Kotoka International Airport confirmed Mackey left Ghana that same day.

The police then successfully contacted the alleged victim to assist the investigation. However, she informed them she was out of the country.

Additionally, she stated she could not provide the names of the alleged officers or the license plate of the vehicle involved.

Investigation Hits Obstacles as Cooperation Falters

When investigators requested the contact details of a friend who was reportedly with her during the incident, Mackey declined.

She stated her friend did not wish to be involved in the investigation. Following this contact, Mackey deleted the original video from her social media page.

Since then, further efforts by investigators to reach her via WhatsApp calls and messages have failed. Initially, she declined to respond, and later, she blocked the investigative team entirely.

Police Pursue Diplomatic Channels and Reaffirm Commitment

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service emphasizes it is continuing efforts to secure her cooperation.

Currently, they are working through appropriate diplomatic channels to re-establish communication.

Ultimately, the service states it treats such allegations with the utmost seriousness. The CID remains firmly committed to uncovering the complete facts in this case, underscoring its dedication to justice and public trust.

The press release was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer for the Criminal Investigation Department.
