Paramount Chief Nii Ayi Bonte II, leader of the Gbese Stool of the Ga Traditional Council has cautioned against illegal structures on the obliterated Kantamanto land.

The Traditional leader spoke at a conference and re-affirmed its intention to reclaim the land.

The land, prior to the annihilation contained about 7,000 structures. These structures were owned by about 30,000 different Ghanaian traders

Paramount Chief Nii Ayi Bote II warned against illegal resettlement of the place. He said the Gbese stool has plans to repossess and redevelop the land with the collaboration of investors.

In outlining plans for the repossession, the Chief said there would be appointed members in place to ensure final destruction of remnants of the buildings. Additionally, he said the members would serve as a taskforce to prevent unauthorized structures from being mounted.

He said “The land has an owner, so no one should take the law into their hands and build any wooden structures. We will not accept this attitude again. That is why we are having this press conference to inform everyone that we are bringing in investors from April to change the place. We are cautioning anyone who has put up any structures without our permission to pull them down because we will be sending a task force to the grounds to ensure no one puts up any illegal structures”

Since the total destruction began, there has been speculation about foul play. Both NDC and NPP have been accused of setting the market on fire in order to illegally acquire and re-develop same.

It is unclear as of now the stance of the Government concerning the statement and decision made by the Gbese Stool leader.
