Honourable Sam Nartey George Calls Out DStv Ghana for Unfair Pricing Practices

Honourable Sam Nartey George has strongly criticized DStv Ghana for what he describes as a blatant disregard for Ghanaian consumers. In a recent statement, he highlighted the stark contrast in how the pay-TV giant treats Nigerian customers compared to Ghanaians. He noted that when Nigerian authorities challenged DStv’s price increases, the company reversed its decision following intervention by the Nigerian House of Representatives.

However, in Ghana, despite the cedi appreciating by about 10%, inflation dropping by over 5%, and fuel prices decreasing earlier this year, DStv still implemented a 15% price hike in April. This, he argues, demonstrates a lack of respect for Ghanaian consumers and raises questions about the company’s fairness in pricing.

The Member of Parliament also revealed an alternative proposal from DStv, which he firmly rejected.

According to him, the company suggested maintaining its current high bouquet prices but withholding revenue from being sent to its headquarters. Hon. Sam George dismissed this offer as illogical, emphasizing that his primary concern is ensuring Ghanaians pay fair prices for DStv’s services.

“The essence of my action is to see Ghanaians pay a fair price for the services offered,” he stated. “How does this proposal solve the real issue?” His rejection underscores his commitment to fighting against corporate exploitation and demanding accountability from multinational companies operating in Ghana.

Hon. Sam George’s statement reflects a broader call for a “RESET” in how corporations engage with Ghanaian consumers. He insists that public servants must fiercely protect the interests of citizens against unfair business practices.

While expressing empathy for Ghanaian DStv employees, he urged them to stand with the people in demanding fairness. He remains open to “constructive engagements” but maintains that any discussions must center on price reductions. Anything else, he says, is irrelevant.

Ending his statement with the rallying cry, “For God and Country,” he reaffirmed his dedication to advocating for justice and equity in Ghana’s consumer market.
