Mr. Christian Tettey Yohunu the Deputy IGP today filed a defamatory suit at the Accra High Court against Media General Limited broadcaster Captain Smart.
In the suit, Mr Yohunu stated that the broadcaster during his TV program on December 27th, 2024, alleged that “some elements within the Ghana Armed Forces and some officials of the Ghana Police Service had intended to destabilize Ghana’s constitutional order by causing a coup d’état.”
In the TV program, Captain Smart also alleged that the Deputy IGP, though a card bearing member of the NPP, frequents the homes of NDC members and pays monies in order to secure an appointment under the latter’s government.
The court documents also said Captain Smart alleged that the Deputy IGP’s appointment had political strings attached to it.
Mr. Yohunu is therefore in court seeking general damages and prays the court restrains the broadcaster from further defamation.
The complainant is also seeking the court to order Captain Smart to retract and apologize for those comments on the stations he made them.
