Deputy Governor Of Bank Of Ghana Takes Early Retirement

Mrs. Elsie Addo Awadzi, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ghana has communicated her decision to take early retirement.

Mrs Awadzi is an international economic and financial lawyer who has worked professionally in various capacities in Ghana and internationally.

She was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo as the 2nd deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana in February 2018. That made her the second female to hold that position.

In 2020,  Mrs Awadzi was elected Chairperson of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion’s Gender Inclusive Finance Committee in 2020

Elsie Addo worked as a commissioner of Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission for six years and then as a Senior Counsel of the IMF’s Legal Department (Financial and Fiscal Law Unit), where she advised on financial sector reforms in the context of the IMF’s surveillance, lending and technical assistance activities

She had over 25 years of experience working in various capacities in Ghana, Japan, South Africa, and the United Kingdom when she was the second female to be 2nd Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Her early retirement has been well accepted by the President H.E John Dramani Mahama. The President thanked her and wished her well in her future endeavors.
