The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has welcomed the revised implementation date for the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy (ESSDRL), now set for June 16, 2025, instead of the initially proposed June 9.

In a press release dated June 8, COMAC commended the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the Ministry of Finance, the National Petroleum Authority, and the Ghana Revenue Authority. The revised timeline follows constructive stakeholder engagements, highlighting the importance of dialogue in achieving sustainable policy outcomes.

COMAC expressed satisfaction with the decision, emphasizing the value of partnership between industry players and regulatory bodies. The chamber acknowledged the government’s responsiveness to concerns raised during consultations, which ensured a smoother transition for the new levy under the Energy Sector Levies Act 2025 (Act 1141). Dr. Riverson Oppong, CEO and Industry Coordinator of COMAC, extended gratitude to all involved institutions for their commitment to a balanced and effective implementation process.

The revised date provides additional time for oil marketing companies and other stakeholders to prepare for the levy’s rollout. COMAC reiterated its support for policies that promote stability in Ghana’s energy sector and pledged continued collaboration with regulators to address industry challenges.

The announcement underscores the significance of inclusive policymaking in fostering economic resilience and sectoral growth.
