In the 2024 parliamentary elections, notable incumbent members of Parliament (MPs) have lost their seats.
The two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), fiercely fought for the seats.
However, after a number of influential members of the NPP’s parliament were defeated, the NDC ultimately won a majority of seats in the upcoming parliament.
Long-time MP for Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region K.T. Hammond was defeated by Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani of the NDC. Dorani received 14,229 votes, compared to 13,275 for Hammond.
The seats of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful of Ablekuma West and Darkoa Newman of Okaikwei South were also lost, with Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful losing to Rev. Kweku Addo of the NDC.
Both Ursula Owusu-Ekuful of Ablekuma West and Darkoa Newman of Okaikwei South lost their seats; Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful fell to Rev. Kweku Addo of the NDC, who received 31,866 votes to her 26,575.
The incumbent Henry Quartey lost to Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu of the NDC in Ayawaso Central, who garnered 29,755 votes to Quartey’s 23,345. Okle Felix Akwetey of the NDC defeated Sylvester Tetteh of Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro by a landslide of 37,473 votes to 27,888.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Blay Nyameke Armah defeated incumbent Sekondi MP Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer. In contrast to Blay Nyameke Armah, who received 14,558 votes, Egyapa Mercer received 11,084. Blay Nyameke Armah received 14,558 votes, compared to 11,084 for Egyapa Mercer.
Prince Ebenezer Arhin of the NDC defeated Ophelia Mensah Hayford of the NPP in the Mfantseman election, garnering 35,832 votes to her 23,349 votes.
Movie star John Dumelo defeated Lydia Seyram Alhassan in the hotly contested Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency seat. Rachel Owusuaa of the NDC barely defeated Twum Barima in Dormaa East, receiving 12,310 votes to Barima’s 12,050.Additionally,
Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo defeated John Peter Amewu of the NPP to win the Hohoe seat for the NDC.
