MP for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region Eugene Boakye Antwi has given further reasons for his party’s abysmal performance during the last (2024) general elections.
The MP gave analysis of the synergy between then Vice President Dr Bawumia and the finance minister Ken Ofori Atta. He said prior to 2020, the vice president and the finance minister had a cordial relationship. Hon Antwi said Dr Bawumia hitherto would sit through the budget reading process anytime Ken was in parliament.
According to Hon Antwi, the relationship between the pair became sour as a result of excessive borrowing from the finance minister. He said “after 2020, Ken was running a one man show”. This made Dr. Bawumia alienate himself totally from Ken and the party.
Describing how serious the situation was, Hon Antwi said 42 MPs met in his house to discuss the unfavorable and critical condition within the party. He particularly fingered the performance of Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta. Not even the summoning of the majority leader Kyei Mensah Bonsu and other 42 ministers got the president’s attention to remove Ken from the finance ministry.
According to him, due to the poor performance of Hon Ken Ofori Atta, he predicted the party will be totally annihilated during the elections
