The two Spanish football giants faced each other in the Super Sup Final on 12th January 2025 in Saudi Arabia.

The competition was one that was anticipated to be keenly contested since it was the El Classico in the beginning of the year.

The last El Classico, Barca beat Real Madrid 4 goals to nil back in October 2024. Most supporters argued that Barca’s win was a fluke and that the Catalan club were mere lucky. In that encounter, Madrid lost a lot of goalscoring opportunities. Hence many thought this encounter would be highly competitive with Ancelotti’s side taking their chances.

Unfortunately though, it wasn’t quite as competitive as anticipated.

The Blanco’s took the early lead with Kylian Mbappe amazing the entire stadium scoring a stunning solo goal in the 5th minute.

Inigo Martinez, Barca defender couldn’t continue to finish the match with an injury. Kylian Mbappe also felt quite uncomfortable and didn’t seem potent to continue but he did regardless.

After few minutes though, the 17 year old Lamin Yamal dazzled the Madrid defense with a cheeky goal to equalize in the 21st minute.

Before the half time, Barca had taken a 4 goal lead. With a brace from Raphinha in the 39th and 48th minute, Madrid players looked hopeless. Lewandowki scored in the 36th minute whiles Balde added another in the dying minute of 45 plus 10 minutes.

In the 60th minute, Madrid seemed to have had a lifeline when goalie Wojciech Szczesny was shown a straight red card for the tackle on Mbappe. Rydrygo’s goal from the free kick couldn’t see Madrid competing enough for the cup. They were outclassed by Flick’s side.

After the referee’s final whistle,  Barcelona has won by 5 goals to 2, and crowned the Spanish Super Cup champions.
