Rapper ASAP Rocky was acquitted of shooting Terell Ephron, also known as ASAP Relli, his longtime buddy and colleague.
A California jury found the rapper not guilty of two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, stemming from a 2021 shooting incident with a former friend in Los Angeles
After roughly three hours of deliberation, the jury decided on Tuesday to exonerate Rocky of two felony assault charges connected to an event that occurred in Los Angeles in 2021.
After the verdict, Rocky, whose true name is Rakim Mayers, was clearly upset. He thanked the jurors and leaped into the courtroom gallery to embrace his wife, singer and entrepreneur Rihanna. He said to them, “Thank you all for saving my life.”
The actor and hip-hop musician, who has been the singer and businesswoman Rihanna’s longstanding partner, had claimed the handgun was a toy gun that only fired blanks, according to his attorneys. A$AP Rocky did not give a statement throughout the trial. When the verdict was read on Tuesday, Rihanna was in the courtroom.
