A 58-year-old man attempted to assassinate U.S. former president and presidential candidate Donald Trump at his golf course in Florida.
The said attempted assassination was to take place at Trump’s golf course in Florida. Secret Service has indicated that the man spent nearly 12 hours in the bushes around the former president’s golf course and seemed to have a direct sight and target of the former president.
The would-be shooter of Donald Trump was arrested a week ago when the barrel of a rifle was spotted by one of the Secret Service members when Trump was playing golf. The secret service man fired shots at the accused which led him to flee the scene before being stopped by officials
The Department of Justice says the man accused in the assassination attempt left a handwritten note detailing his trail and the itinerary of the former president from August, September and October.
According to US prosecutors, one of the handwritten notes written by Ryan read “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; I will offer $150,000 to whoever can complete it”.
Documents in the man’s car proved that he disliked Trump’s foreign policies, especially concerning Russia, China, Ukraine and Iran.
The accused has been locked in a move by prosecutors that the man is a threat to public safety.
Ryan Routh’s charges include two federal gun charges: possessing a firearm and as a convicted felon
The accused is also to be charged with plotting to assassinate a political candidate.
