Accordingly, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu lll , officially announced her death during a meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday, August 11, 2025. This announcement immediately resonated throughout the kingdom.
Peaceful Passing at Age 98
The revered Queen Mother passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98, after a brief illness. Her passing concluded an impactful eight-year reign on the Asanteheman stool. She had been enstooled on February 6, 2017, following the death of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem IIl. Consequently, her death marks the end of a significant chapter in Asanteman history.
Asantehene Pays Tribute
During the council session, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II praised the late Queen Mother for her wisdom, humility, and unwavering dedication to service. He further emphasized her pivotal role in strengthening unity among the chiefs while safeguarding the traditions of the Asante Kingdom. By highlighting her contributions, he reminded everyone of the lasting impact she made on both leadership and community cohesion.
Funeral Ban for One-Week Celebration
In her honour, Manhyia Palace has designated Thursday, August 21, 2025, as a day of mourning for her one-week celebration. Consequently, all funerals within Asanteman suspends on that date, allowing every household and traditional authority to participate fully. This decision ensures that the kingdom collectively observes her memory with respect and devotion.
Venue and Time for Observance
The one-week observance will take place at the forecourt of Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Chiefs, queen mothers, dignitaries, and mourners from across Ghana are expected to attend. Moreover, the ceremony will feature traditional music, cultural displays, and sacred customs to honour her memory. By organizing these events, the kingdom ensures that her legacy is celebrated visibly and inclusively.
