“I Could See Their Panties”-UPSA Lecturer On Indecent Dressing

Mr. Ibrahim shared several personal experiences to illustrate the issue. In one particularly troubling incident during his second year of teaching, he had to ask some female students wearing very short skirts—exposing their undergarments—to move to the back of the lecture hall.

“I am standing at the podium teaching, and the students are sitting over there—the skirt is so short that you could see their panties,” he recounted. He argued that such situations not only distract the class but also challenge the university’s commitment to professionalism.

The lecturer also spoke about problems that surfaced during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in online classes. He noted that virtual learning exposed another layer of student misconduct.

“I have had the experience of students putting on earphones and going to shower,” he said, adding that platforms like Zoom made it easier to identify individuals engaging in inappropriate behavior. These experiences, according to Mr. Ibrahim, underscore the urgent need for universities to establish and enforce clear dress codes and behavioral expectations—even in digital classrooms.

Mr. Ibrahim concluded by reiterating that UPSA, as a professional institution, must set and uphold high standards for student appearance and conduct. He argued that wearing low-cut tops, revealing skirts, or exposing cleavage in an academic setting is not only disrespectful but undermines the seriousness of the learning environment.

“Coming to class and showing off your cleavage or breasts among your fellow students is inappropriate,” he said firmly, calling for a culture that reflects the values and professionalism that the university stands for.
