The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) conducted its National Executive Election in 2025, with several key positions contested by prominent journalists.
Albert Kwabena Dwumfour emerged as the new President, securing 64.49% of the votes (445 votes) against his opponent, Charles Yao Mawusi, who garnered 35.51% (245 votes). Similarly, Rebecca Ekpe won the Vice President position with 60.35% of the votes (414 votes), defeating Mary Mensah, who received 39.65% (272 votes). These results reflect a decisive mandate for the winning candidates, indicating strong support from the association’s members.
In other contested positions, Dominic Hlordzi was elected General Secretary with 64.20% of the votes (443 votes), outperforming Akwasi Agyeman, who received 35.80% (247 votes). The Organising Secretary race was closely contested, with Suleiman Mustapha winning 53.21% of the votes (365 votes) against Maxwell Kudekor’s 46.79% (321 votes). Zadok Kwame Gyesi also secured a significant victory for Public Affairs, obtaining 63.01% of the votes (431 votes), while Caesar Abagali trailed with 36.99% (253 votes). These outcomes highlight both clear victories and tight races, showcasing the dynamic nature of the election.
The Treasurer position saw Bertha Badu-Agyei winning with 58.28% of the votes (401 votes), defeating Theodora A. Amedetor Yakanu, who received 41.72% (287 votes).
Overall, the election demonstrated a high level of participation, with vote totals ranging from 684 to 690 across the positions. The results underscore the association’s commitment to democratic processes and the members’ active engagement in shaping the leadership of the GJA for the coming term.
