The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has granted Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, a GH¢50 million bail after he was interrogated for allegedly causing financial loss to the state.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman was questioned for several hours at the EOCO headquarters in Accra last Tuesday before the bail was approved. The charges against him remain undisclosed, but sources suggest they are linked to alleged financial misconduct during his business dealings.
Reports indicate that Wontumi fell ill following the lengthy interrogation, though the exact nature of his condition is unclear. His legal team has assured the public of his cooperation with authorities while maintaining his innocence.
The case has drawn significant public attention, given Wontumi’s political influence and previous legal battles. EOCO has yet to provide further details on the investigation, but the bail conditions suggest the case will proceed to court in the coming weeks.
