Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin erupted in anger during a parliamentary session on accusing a cameraman of deliberately focusing on his footwear while he debated.

The visibly agitated lawmaker claimed the camera operator unfairly zoomed in on his lower torso, including the shoe he had removed due to discomfort, while neglecting to do the same for the Speaker of Parliament. “I was in pain, which is why I took off my shoe—not to be mocked or politicized,” Afenyo-Markin fumed, demanding professionalism from the media team.

The Minority Leader issued a stern warning to the cameraman, urging him to stick to his job and avoid what he described as “political mischief.” The incident sparked a brief uproar in the chamber, with some lawmakers backing Afenyo-Markin’s complaint while others dismissed it as an overreaction.

Hon Afenyo-Markin urged his fellow MPs to take seriously the incident during proceedings, warning that such targeting could happen to any legislator. “Today, it is me; tomorrow, it may be you,” Afenyo-Markin cautioned his colleagues, emphasizing the need for mutual protection against what he perceived as unprofessional media conduct aimed at embarrassing lawmakers.

Social media users quickly seized on the clash, with some joking about the “shoe scandal” and others debating media ethics in parliamentary coverage. The Speaker later called for calm, reminding both MPs and journalists to maintain decorum during proceedings.
