The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has addressed a widely circulated video showing an altercation between a member of its Dress Code Compliance Team and a Level 100 female student.
In an official statement released on July 3, 2025, the university condemned the staff member’s behavior as “unacceptable,” emphasizing its commitment to integrity, respect, and student welfare. Management swiftly launched an investigation, confirming the incident and issuing apologies to the affected student, including a personal apology from the Vice-Chancellor and a written apology from the staff member involved.
As part of its response, UPSA announced a review of its dress code enforcement protocols to ensure future interactions align with the institution’s core values. Additional training will be provided to the compliance team to reinforce professionalism during policy enforcement. The university reiterated that while the dress code—a longstanding policy signed by all students—prepares graduates for corporate environments, its implementation must always be conducted with civility and due process.
UPSA reassured stakeholders of its dedication to maintaining a safe and respectful campus, acknowledging the concerns raised by the public. The student involved also expressed regret for her conduct in a letter to management. The university highlighted the enduring benefits of its professional culture, as evidenced by its alumni, but affirmed that disciplinary measures must never compromise student dignity. The incident has prompted broader reflections on balancing policy enforcement with respectful engagement in academic institutions.
