The home office in the UK has announced an increase in financial proof requirements for international students
Beginning January 2025, international students hoping to study in UK, London or outside of London would have to show proof of saving for up to an amount of 1483 pounds and 1136 pounds per month respectively.
The home office announced the changes on the 10th of September 2024. The office also iterated that the upward adjustment in financial requirement was done in order to keep up with increased maintenance on domestic loans and the financial sector instability due to inflation.
Amidst showing proof of the increased savings amount, another increased amount of NHS 776 pounds per year, and other services including visa application fees have also been increased.
For instance, international students hoping to study in the UK for a period of six to nine months are to show proof of funds of about 13,348 pounds.
As Europe, America and Canada continuously tighten their immigration systems, more international students are left in limbo with others already facing the threat of deportation.
