10 people have been killed and more than 35 others injured in New Orleans terror attack on early Wednesday morning.
A man in a rented pick-up truck ploughed through a crowd of a busy New Orleans street on New Year’s Day.
The suspect has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42 year old Texas man and Army veteran.
FBI officials say the suspect was killed in a firefight with officers. Authorities also confirm the suspect had an ISIS flag at the time of the attack. FBI also suspect the deceased attacker was not acting alone. It is also believed that the suspect is linked to the ISIS terrorist organization.
Concerning his military service, FBI assistant agent in charge said “We believe he was honorably discharged, but we are working through this process, figuring out all this information,”
Different types of weapons were found in the drivers vehicle. Some of the weapons included IEDs.
This attack has triggered authorities to postponed the Sugar Bowl. The annual college football game which hitherto was to be held on Wednesday has been postponed until 24 hours time for public safety.
Law enforcement has increased its presence in New Orleans where the terror attack occurred.
Other security agencies like the Homeland Security Investigation and the FBI are all present on the scene.
