Ghana’s Security Forces to Double Recruitment Intake to 40,000

To bolster national security and create more employment opportunities for the youth, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a massive expansion of the ongoing security services recruitment exercise.

Following a high-level strategic meeting at the presidency, the Commander-in-Chief directed that the number of new personnel absorbed into the various security agencies should be doubled.

A Major Increase in Recruitment Numbers

Initially, the plan was to recruit twenty thousand (20,000) men and women over the next four years. However, after a thorough briefing on the process and the current needs of the country, the President has revised this target upward. Consequently, he has directed that the intake should be significantly increased to forty thousand (40,000) recruits within the same four-year period.

This decision effectively doubles the manpower injection into the country’s security architecture. Furthermore, it opens the door for thousands of young Ghanaians seeking employment and a career in public service to secure positions in various agencies.

Emphasis on Transparency and Fairness

President Mahama stressed the integrity of the recruitment process. He specifically charged security agency heads to ensure transparency and fairness.

Furthermore, the President made merit and due process the guiding principles. His insistence on a level playing field eliminates any perception of bias.

The administration therefore aims to select the best candidates. This focus on equity will build public trust from the ground up.

Additionally, a high-level meeting served as the catalyst for this directive. Top government and security officials attended the crucial discussions.

Specifically, the Chief of Staff and the secretary to the president were all present for the deliberations at the high level meeting

Also, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs joined them. Security representatives formed a comprehensive assembly of leaders.

These included the National Security Coordinator at the meeting. The Inspector General of Police also attended the discussions.

Furthermore, the Director General of Prisons participated fully. The Director General of the Fire Service joined as well.

Likewise, the Comptroller-General of Immigration was in attendance. The Narcotics Control Commission Director General also participated.

Consequently, all security services branches now align with this directive. Their presence ensures unified implementation of the new policy.

A Multi-Faceted Approach

This expansion serves a dual purpose. On one hand, it directly addresses the pressing need for enhanced security personnel to handle modern challenges.

On the other hand, it acts as a significant job creation mechanism, absorbing a substantial number of citizens into formal employment.

In conclusion, with the President’s clear directive on transparency and the commitment of all security heads, the recruitment process is set to be a landmark exercise. It promises not only to strengthen the nation’s security forces but also to provide a fair opportunity for thousands of Ghanaians to contribute to their country.
