The National Peace Council (NPC) has strongly condemned the reported killings of students at Nalerigu Senior High and Bawku Technical School, as well as assassinations in Asawase, Kumasi.
In a press release issued today, July 28, 2025, the NPC described these attacks as “barbaric, cruel, distasteful, criminal, reprehensible and a blot on our human rights”. The Council extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and urged security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure swift justice.
The NPC expressed grave concern about potential linkages between these incidents and the ongoing Bawku conflict , highlighting worry over the “growing insecurity in Bawku, Nalerigu and Asawase in the face of violent extremists’ activities in neighbouring countries”. To address this, the Council called on all feuding parties to channel their grievances through the Otumfuo Mediation Committee. Furthermore, they advocated for the revival of the inter-ethnic peace committee as a complementary mechanism to assist the Otumfuo Committee in finding an amicable solution to the conflict.
In its concluding remarks, the Peace Council appealed to all parties involved in the conflict to embrace “tolerance, mutual respect and dialogue” in any intervention plan. They also urged the media and commentators to exercise “maximum restraint in their pronouncements” on the matter. The NPC commended the government for its swift actions taken so far and pressed the state and its agencies to act decisively to ensure peace and security.
