During Asante Kotoko’s 1-0 loss to Nsoatreman FC on Sunday 2nd February, 2025, violence broke out, leaving a supporter tragically dead and numerous others injured.
The fan died at Sunyani Hospital after suffering fatal injuries during the altercation, the club revealed in an official statement.
Tensions on the field resulted in player altercations with four red cards being given, making the match already intense. But after the final whistle, rival supporters started fighting violently, which made the situation worse.
The entire Kotoko crew went to the hospital after the event to hear the heartbreaking news. In order to hold those guilty for the violence accountable, the club has vehemently denounced it and is pleading with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to begin an investigation.
