A journalist (Latiff Iddrisu) from Joy FM was reportedly assaulted by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) outside the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra, where Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) was being detained.

The journalist, who was covering the unfolding events, was allegedly attacked by agitated party loyalists while attempting to film the scene. Eyewitnesses say the supporters accused the media of biased reporting and physically confronted the reporter, leading to a scuffle before security personnel intervened.

The incident has sparked outrage among media rights groups, who are demanding an investigation and accountability for the assault.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi remains in EOCO custody over allegations of illegal mining, and other alleged financial crimes unclear reasons while tensions continue to rise between his supporters and authorities. Police have increased security around the EOCO premises to prevent further clashes.
