The president elect was speaking to the National chief Imam and his team during a courtesy call.
After the historic win in the just ended general elections in both presidential and parliamentary, many have speculated that the in coming John Mahama-led government would misuse the powers of parliament to their advantage.
With the NDC party winning about 185 seats in parliament, there is a huge numerical advantage in their favor during legislation.
However, the president elect has assured Ghanaians through a discussion with the National Chief Imam that his administration will be an inclusive one. He also stated that no government can build Ghana successfully on its own, hence it would be in constant consultation with the NPP opposition party throughout his tenure.
He said “I wish to assure my father [National Chief Imam] and our fathers that we’re not going to misuse the majority we have in Parliament. Even though we have a huge majority, more than two-thirds, we’re not going to misuse it.
“We are going to consult with the NPP at every stage and make sure that we do things by consensus instead of railroading everybody,”
John Mahama expressed sincere gratitude to voters and members of his party for a historic win whiles labelling it a humbling experience for him.
