Saddick Adams, widely celebrated as “the Sports Obama” for his incisive sports commentary, has shared a heartwarming and truly inspiring update on the young boy he discovered, whose life has been profoundly transformed through the generosity of businessman Dr. Kwaku Oteng.

This compelling narrative, which began with a chance encounter on a WhatsApp group, has captivated the public, with Adams often recounting how strangers, from funeral attendees to police officers at checkpoints, eagerly inquire about “his small boy.” The story of Dominic Fobih is a powerful testament to the impact of opportunity, mentorship, and unwavering support.

The journey began in July 2020, when Adams stumbled upon a video of a nine-year-old boy presenting sports with remarkable talent on a WhatsApp platform. Instantly recognizing his potential for greatness, Adams embarked on a quest to locate him. The search led him to Assin Kwamoabeng, a remote village whose circumstances starkly contrasted with anything Adams had previously known, even making his own childhood struggles seem luxurious. The village lacked basic infrastructure: no motorable roads, no electricity, no mobile network, no television, and consisting of fewer than five mud houses. It was here that Adams found Dominic, a naturally brilliant student who had just completed primary six and was recognized as the best in his small village school.

The harsh realities of Assin Kwamoabeng meant that for most children, education beyond primary six was an insurmountable obstacle. The nearest Junior High School was miles away, forcing many of Dominic’s nine siblings, like their father, to pursue lives as hunters and farmers. However, Dominic’s talent caught the eye of Dr. Kwaku Oteng after the boy appeared on Adams’s sports show. Deeply moved, Dr. Oteng proposed a life-changing opportunity: he offered to sponsor Dominic’s education and living expenses in Accra, under Adams’s guardianship. A remarkable drive to the remote village secured the parents’ permission, and Dominic, with dreams in tow, embarked on his journey to the bustling capital city.

The transition to Accra, however, presented its own unique set of challenges, particularly in securing a quality education. Despite Dominic’s inherent intelligence, the vast disparity in educational standards between his village school and Accra’s urban institutions meant he was “miles apart” from his peers. Many top schools demanded entrance exams, which included questions on subjects Dominic had never encountered. Consequently, several schools declined admission, while others would only accept him if he was placed in a significantly lower class. This period of uncertainty was undoubtedly tough, threatening to derail the promising start to his new life.

Yet, a breakthrough came when one of Accra’s premier schools (Presumably Crown Prince Academy in Kwashiebu, Accra) demonstrated remarkable foresight, looking beyond Dominic’s initial “patent defects” in formal education and recognizing his raw potential. Though the initial period was fraught with difficulties, Dominic’s innate intelligence, coupled with relentless encouragement and dedicated extra work, allowed him to gradually bridge the gap. He adapted remarkably, evolving from a child who had never seen a computer to a “computer shark” who, within a few years, was leading coding sessions in his class – a testament to his incredible capacity for learning and adaptation.

Yesterday marked a pivotal moment in Dominic’s extraordinary journey as he officially graduated, receiving one of the top student awards. Saddick Adams proudly announced the achievement, declaring, “Ladies and Gentlemen, ‘Professor’ Dominic Fobih is a graduate and a computer ‘shark’.” This incredible transformation from a remote village student to an award-winning graduate, poised for a future in technology, stands as a beacon of hope. It underscores the profound impact that timely intervention, generous sponsorship, and dedicated mentorship can have in unlocking human potential, proving that brilliance can thrive when given the chance, regardless of one’s humble beginnings.
