The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the full reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary schools across the country, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.
In a press release dated 17th July 2025, the GES instructed heads of public senior high, technical, and STEM schools to operationalize PTAs immediately. This move aims to foster stronger collaboration among parents, teachers, and communities to enhance the quality of education for Ghanaian students.
The reinstatement of PTAs comes with a commitment to transparency and accountability. The GES assured stakeholders that detailed guidelines on the structure, roles, and financial management of PTAs will be issued soon to ensure uniformity and efficiency in their operations. By reinstating these associations, the government seeks to empower parents and communities to play a more active role in school governance and decision-making processes.
The GES has called for the support of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of this policy. The revival of PTAs is expected to bridge gaps in school-community partnerships and improve educational outcomes. This decision marks a significant step toward decentralizing education management and reinforcing shared responsibility in Ghana’s pre-tertiary education system.
