In a massive crackdown on criminal activity, the Bono Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the 3rd Infantry Battalion and the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI), has executed a high-impact joint operation in Sampa Township. This tactical exercise resulted in the recovery of eight assorted weapons and the apprehension of 24 suspects.

 

The security apparatus launched this intelligence-led operation in the early hours of March 21, 2026. Their primary objective was clear: to rid the region of illegal weapons and neutralize criminal elements threatening the safety of citizens. As a result, the exercise proved highly successful, uncovering a significant cache of dangerous items.

 

A Significant Recovery of Weapons and Military Gear

During the search, authorities recovered a substantial arsenal. Specifically, the exhibits seized include five pump-action guns, one Baikal gun, and two locally manufactured pistols. Furthermore, officers found 790 rounds of AAA and BB cartridges, indicating the potential threat the suspects posed.

 

However, the haul extended beyond firearms. To elaborate, the security forces also discovered items suggesting a high level of organization, including two foreign military jackets, two body armors (one lacking a metal plate), four bayonets, and a pair of desert boots. Additionally, a list of other incriminating items was compiled, featuring 21 machetes, seven pairs of black boots, six whiskers, five clubs, and an AK-47 ammunition.

 

In a curious twist, the operation led to the recovery of an official stamp bearing the inscription “Nana Samgba Gyafla II President Sampa Traditional Council.” Moreover, the police impounded eight assorted motorbikes, one rickshaw, six assorted keypad phones, 12 smart phones, and a quantity of talismans. Other tools such as a pair of pliers, a chisel, six knives, and a torchlight were also taken as exhibits.

 

Suspects Apprehended and Investigation Underway

The joint operation netted a wide range of individuals. Among the 24 suspects arrested are Losina Ibrahim, 21; Siaka Sirachi, 20; Nketia Samuel, 58; and a 78-year-old, Takyi Poku. Notably, the ages of those detained vary significantly, with minors as young as 13 years old, including Musah Shakure and Sereboma Latif, also found in possession of illicit items.

 

Meanwhile, two of the suspects, Sie Emmanuel and Mensah Kofi Emmanuel, face additional charges for violating the curfew regulation. Currently, all suspects remain in police custody. Moving forward, investigators are working diligently to prepare the docket for prosecution.

 

Call for Public Cooperation

Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, emphasized that the operation shows the commitment of the security agencies to maintain peace.

“We are working tirelessly to enhance the safety and security of citizens within the region,” the statement read.

 

The Police Command is urging the public to continue providing credible information. Specifically, they ask residents to report any individuals in possession of unlawful weapons. With public cooperation, the police aim to sustain this momentum and ensure that Sampa and its surrounding areas remain secure.
