Court Order Temporarily Halts Daddy Lumba Funeral Plans
Daddy Lumba’s Burial – Initially, the High Court in Accra granted an injunction against the planned funeral.
Specifically, the court restrained the family head, Kwame Owusu, from proceeding with the final rites for music icon Daddy Lumba on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Furthermore, the court ordered him to convene an inclusive family meeting within three days.
This order directly responded to an application from maternal family members, including Ernestina Brempomaa and Yaw Opoku. Consequently, the funeral home, Transitions, was also barred from releasing the body.
Financial Caveat Complicates Daddy Lumba Funeral Arrangements
However, the situation evolved after the court reconvened lawyers from both sides.
The court added a critical financial caveat to its earlier injunction.
Importantly, the court mandated that the applicants pay GH¢2 million to the family head by 2 pm today.
This payment addresses costs already incurred for the planned Daddy Lumba funeral.
Although the lawyers for the family head requested GH¢5 million, the court settled on the GH¢2 million amount. The mode of payment, whether cash or cheque, was not specified.
Deadline Set for Daddy Lumba Funeral Proceedings
Therefore, a strict deadline is now in place. If the applicants fail to pay the GH¢2 million by 2 pm today, the injunction will be lifted.
As a result, Transitions Funeral Home will release Daddy Lumba’s body, and the funeral scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, will proceed as originally planned.
The applicants in this case, as reported by Graphic Online’s Justice Agbenorsi, are maternal family members Obaapanin Afia Adomah, Robert Gyamfi, Georgina Gyamfi, Ernestina Brempomaa Fosuh, and Nana Afia Kobi.
They are petitioning against defendants Kofi Owusu (family head), Cal Bank, and Transitions Funeral Home.
Ultimately, this financial caveat introduces a decisive condition into the ongoing Daddy Lumba funeral dispute.
