New Ruling on Daddy Lumba Funeral Arrangements

While recognizing the traditional authority of the family head in organizing funerals, the court stated he must collaborate with the immediate family.

The judge directed him to convene a meeting with all relevant parties within three weeks to set a new burial date.

Financial Orders in The Funeral Dispute

Additionally, the court ordered that all funds collected for the funeral be kept separate. This is different from the accounts belonging to the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation.

The plaintiffs were instructed to submit supporting documents to the court registrar.

Root of The Funeral Conflict

The conflict arose following Daddy Lumba’s passing on July 26, 2025, at age 60. Disagreements emerged between his maternal relatives and the family head over control of the funeral and management of related funds.

This case brings attention to longstanding Akan customs that grant significant influence to maternal relatives in funeral proceedings.
