A 14-year-old boy has lost a court case he brought against his own parents after they moved him from London to Ghana to go to boarding school.
The boy’s father told the judge the couple did not want their son to be “yet another black teenager stabbed to death in the streets of London.”
The boy, who had lived in the UK since birth, said he was “mocked” and “never settled in” at the school in Ghana
The boys parents told the court they sent their son away because they feared for his safety in London.
The father told the court they did not want their son to be “yet another black teenager stabbed to death in the streets of London”.
The mother also said sending him to Africa was “not a punishment but a measure to protect him”
Representatives of the boy’s father also said the boy had satisfied 11 points that indicated he might have joined a criminal gang or he was being criminally exploited.
Among the points raised in the 11 points were :
missing classes, having unexplained money, buying new things and carrying of weapons.
The High Court, presided over by Justice Hayden said he recognized the situation was both sobering and depressing.
He also agreed the parents acted in a way that will mean well for their son out of deep and unconditional love.
